According to the latest information from Tehran, Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has announced that, in line with the ceasefire in Lebanon, the Strait of Hormuz has been fully reopened for all commercial ships. The exemption will remain in effect for the remaining duration of the ceasefire. The Iranian side clarified that ships will be able to move safely through the designated coordinated route.
This move is being seen as a major relief for international maritime trade, as a large share of oil and commercial traffic from Gulf countries passes through the Strait of Hormuz. During the period of tension, risks in this route had increased, which also put pressure on global crude oil prices.
The Iranian foreign minister’s statement surfaced on the social media platform X, where he said the decision was taken in accordance with the ceasefire in Lebanon. Several international media reports have also confirmed that the route has been opened for commercial ships, though the arrangement is temporary and subject to conditions.
Points for the administration:
Increase monitoring on shipping routes linked to the Strait of Hormuz.
Inform stakeholders connected to oil, imports, and exports.
Maritime security agencies should set alert levels according to the new situation.
Keep a close watch on the duration of the Lebanon ceasefire, as the open arrangement depends on it.
