Plea to PM Modi for the Reconstruction of Jannatul Baqi, Respect the Sentiments of Muslims

Lucknow, April 7, 2025: Today is a day of immense sorrow and grief for Muslims. Every year, on the 8th of Shawwal, a large gathering takes place at Shahid Smarak in Lucknow, where people raise their demand for the reconstruction of Jannatul Baqi. This time too, thousands joined the gathering under the leadership of Maulana Yasoob Abbas. Jannatul Baqi is the sacred site where the tomb of Hazrat Fatima Zahra, the daughter of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), once stood. About 102 years ago, the Saudi government demolished it, leaving a deep wound in the hearts of Muslims worldwide that persists to this day.
Maulana Yasoob Abbas addressed the crowd, explaining that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) loved his daughter Fatima dearly. He would say, “Whoever hurts my daughter has hurt me.” Yet, more than a century has passed since that sacred tomb was destroyed, and the Saudi government has not rebuilt it. Raising questions about the Saudi regime, Maulana remarked that some call it a government that aligns with Jewish interests. He expressed dismay that while Saudi Arabia constructs massive malls, cinemas, and liquor stores, permission to rebuild Hazrat Fatima’s tomb is denied.
The gathering saw the participation of scholars, preachers, mourners, community leaders, and thousands of ordinary people, all united in their demand for the reconstruction of Jannatul Baqi. Maulana Yasoob Abbas emphasized that this is not just about a tomb—it is the voice of every Muslim’s heart and a matter of their sentiments. He appealed to India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene in this matter. Maulana urged the Indian government to discuss this long-standing demand with the Saudi government and help fulfill the aspirations of Muslims worldwide.
At the end of the gathering, a poignant step was taken: people wrote a petition in their blood, pleading for the reconstruction of Jannatul Baqi. This petition will be sent to the Saudi Embassy in New Delhi. Maulana stated that this blood-written letter reflects the emotions and pain of Muslims.
The event left everyone with a lingering question: How long will this demand of Muslims be ignored? Shouldn’t the sentiments of Muslims worldwide be respected? All eyes are now on the Indian government and PM Modi to see if they will understand this pain and take any action.
