Rampur, 29 May 2026 — Senior Samajwadi Party leader and former minister Azam Khan’s son and former MLA Abdullah Azam received significant relief from the sessions court on Friday. The MP-MLA sessions court overturned the MP-MLA magistrate court’s verdict that had found Abdullah guilty of obtaining two passports and sentenced him to seven years’ imprisonment.
Hearing the appeal filed by Abdullah Azam, the sessions court quashed the magistrate’s decision. The ruling is being viewed as a legal victory for Abdullah, and his lawyers welcomed the judgment. However, despite this decision, it was made clear that Abdullah Azam remains convicted in other cases, and therefore he will not be released from jail at present.
Supporters and family members of Azam Khan expressed satisfaction with the sessions court’s decision. The parties involved said they will present further details and legal steps in upcoming hearings. Lawyers in Rampur and local observers are interpreting the ruling to determine possible next moves.
