Yesterday, a young man named Abid Raja ended his own life.

This news shook every heart. He left behind his elderly mother, wife, and a little daughter. This was the same Abid who always stood at the forefront in religious gatherings, took part in mourning rituals, and was known as a man who lived by the teachings of Allah’s Book. The question arises — what happened that led such a knowledgeable, faithful, and God-fearing young man to commit suicide?

In Islam, suicide is strictly forbidden. A person’s life is a trust (amanat) from Allah. But when pain, loneliness, despair, and neglect spread in society, fragile hearts are left alone.

The question here is not just about Abid — it is about all of us. Where were we — his neighbors, friends, and relatives — when Abid needed someone to lean on?

The tragedy of Karbala teaches us the true meaning of loyalty and brotherhood. Imam Hussain’s (A.S.) friend, Janab Habib, sacrificed everything he had to stand by his friend in his time of hardship and ultimately gave his life for him.

Today, it is time for us to live by that lesson. Every person must understand their responsibility. Parents should spend time with their children, friends should check on their friends, and neighbors must care for one another. When we stand together, no one like Abid will ever feel the need to end his life.

Suicide is not a solution; it is a grave sin. But an even greater sin occurs when society remains silent.
