New Delhi, June 6,June.
As per the previousl
announced program, a protest began at Jantar Mantar led by the Cockroach Janata Party demanding action over the NEET exam controversy and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. In the early hours the turnout at the protest site was low and the event seemed ordinary, but as the day progressed Jantar Mantar reverberated with the enthusiasm and slogans of the youth.
Students from universities across the country, including JNU and AMU among several other educational institutions, arrived at the protest site in large numbers. The youths carried placards and posters bearing slogans related to education, employment, and social justice. The protesters foregrounded issues such as unemployment, the growing commercialization of education, and concerns about the future of young people.
With slogans like “30 crore are unemployed — who is responsible?” and “Education is everyone’s right, stop this business,” the students demanded answers from the government. The youth present said that students across the country must unite and raise their voices on questions of education and employment.
Social activist and journalist Shabu Zaidi said that the informed participation of youth in a democracy directs the nation’s future. He described the students’ peaceful and democratic expression as a strength of democracy and emphasized the need for serious dialogue on education and employment issues.
By afternoon, thousands of students and young people had gathered at Jantar Mantar, making the protest a topic of discussion among the capital’s major student movements.
