Mother! It is not just a word, but a feeling, a being who resides in every religion, every culture, every heart. A mother is the one who nurtures for nine months in her womb, nourishes with her blood, and even after giving birth, dedicates her entire life to her children. A mother’s love is the second form of God, the depth of which is impossible to express in words. In Islam, it is said, “Paradise lies at the feet of the mother.” In Sanatan Dharma, Lord Rama accepted 14 years of exile to honor a promise made to his stepmother, Kaikeyi. The respect for a mother is paramount in every religion, every culture. Yet, today’s society does not hesitate to hurt the honor of that mother.
Recently, in a rally in Bihar, Mukesh Sahni and Mohammad Rizvi insulted not only an individual but also the sacred bond of motherhood by abusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother. This is not the first time. Today’s politics has fallen so low that, abandoning ideological battles, people resort to vulgar comments about each other’s families, especially mothers and sisters. In earlier times, politics had dignity and respect. Debates were held on opposing ideas, but families were not targeted. Today’s era is such that people fear attending such gatherings with their families. Hearing such language on social media makes everyone feel ashamed, especially when filth is thrown at relationships like mother and sister.
A mother is the one who stays awake all night, restless over her child’s slightest cough. A mother is the one who forgets her own hunger to feed her children. A mother is the one who buries her dreams to give wings to her children’s aspirations. How, then, can anyone dare to hurt the honor of such a mother? Has our society become so insensitive that even a sacred being like a mother is made a target of abuse?
Today, there is a need for all of us to unite and oppose such a mentality. Those who make derogatory remarks about mothers and families should face social boycott. We must teach our children to uphold the honor of a mother in every circumstance. We must send a message to society that not a single word against a mother will be tolerated.
Let us together create a society where the respect for a mother resides in every heart, where every eye sheds tears for a mother, filled with love and honor. If we remain silent today, tomorrow the honor of our own mothers, sisters, and daughters may be questioned. Let us unite in defense of a mother’s honor and uproot this vile mentality from its roots.
