Lucknow: On 19 Ramadan 40 Hijri, in the Masjid-e-Gufa of Kufa, Iraq, Ibn-e-Muljam attacked Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (A.S.)—the son-in-law of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) and father of Hazrat Hasan and Husain (A.S.)—with a poison-laced sword while he was in prostration. In remembrance of this heartbreaking event, millions who love Imam Ali (A.S.), especially the Shia community, hold majalis, matam, and processions annually. In Uttar Pradesh’s capital Lucknow, on 19 Ramadan (March 9, 2026), the grand Kamli (Blanket) Procession commenced right after Fajr prayer. People from all faiths—those with faith and love for Imam Ali (A.S.) in their hearts—joined to express their devotion.Grand Procession and Community UnityThe Gilim (mat) procession, starting post-Fajr, marched through Lucknow’s streets, reviving memories of Imam Ali’s (A.S.) sermons, will, and martyrdom. Devotees in black attire recited nohas and marsiyas while observing matam. The procession vividly depicted the martyrdom—sword strike in sajdah, yet a message of patience and gratitude. People from all walks of life participated, connected to Imam Ali’s (A.S.) principles of justice, equity, and humanity. This was not just a symbol of Shia unity but a medium to spread Imam Ali’s (A.S.) legacy to all.District Administration’s Commendable ArrangementsThe district administration made stellar preparations for the Kamli procession—lighting, road cleaning, traffic diversions, and full vigilance against any mishap, all in place beforehand. Despite the massive crowd, no inconvenience occurred. Praise for them is insufficient! Vigilance by police, municipal corporation, and security forces ensured a peaceful and majestic event. This gathering reinforces Imam Ali’s (A.S.) message as the “Gateway to the City of Knowledge.”Famous Sermon in Majlis: Imam Ali’s (A.S.) Eternal Message on Death and LifeIn the majlis, Imam Ali’s (A.S.) renowned sermon “On Death and Life” from his will was recited, touching every heart:”O People! Death is a truth, the end of every life. It spares neither the rich nor the poor. Life is fleeting—like a shadow’s play. Those who live on Allah’s path turn death into martyrdom. I took the sword in sajdah, but my heart held an ocean of patience. Death is life’s door, where the sun of justice never sets. Reform your deeds, uphold justice, and death becomes a blessing.”
