In today’s social media era, where information is just a click away, some individuals misuse it to spread discord and hatred in society. Especially during sacred times like Muharram, certain so-called Maulanas, who outwardly appear religious with their caps, beards, and traditional attire, are promoting disunity through viral videos. Acting on the directives of their masters, these individuals sow division in society, which is contrary to the teachings of the Quran and Hadith.
The Holy Quran states: **“And do not spread corruption on the earth after it has been set in order.”** (Surah Al-A’raf, Ayat 56). This verse clearly indicates that causing discord on earth is a grave sin. Those who spread hatred, misunderstanding, and division are not only far from the teachings of Islam but are also working against humanity.
In a Hadith, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: **“A Muslim is one from whose hands and tongue other Muslims are safe.”** (Sahih Bukhari). This means a true Muslim is someone who does not harm others through words or actions. However, these so-called Maulanas, who appear religious on the surface, are poisoning society with their statements and videos. They neither follow the teachings of the Quran and Hadith in their own lives nor guide their families on the true path of Islam.
It is crucial to recognize the true face of such individuals. These are the same people who glorify the killers of great personalities like Imam Hussain (R.A.), who sacrificed his life for humanity and justice. The Quran labels such people as mischief-makers who misuse religion for their selfish motives. We must not fall for their deception and should instead discern right from wrong in the light of the Quran and Hadith.
Engaging with such videos on social media—whether by sharing, watching, or debating them—makes us complicit in their sinful actions. Instead, we should follow the teachings of the Quran and Hadith. Islam promotes peace, brotherhood, and humanity. Let us unite to foster love and unity in society to thwart the mischief of these so-called Maulanas. As the Quran says, **“And those who strive in Our cause—We will surely guide them to Our ways.”** (Surah Al-Ankabut, Ayat 69).
