Washington/Jerusalem, April 3, 2026 (translated report): A major and surprising change has emerged in the U.S. military establishment amid the ongoing tense war with Iran. U.S. Army Chief of Staff General Randy George has stepped down and retired effective immediately on the clear directive of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Along with him, two other senior military officials have also been removed from their posts.
This decision was taken at a highly sensitive time, when the United States is locked in a serious military confrontation with Iran in West Asia. In the past two weeks, ground and air clashes have continued, and U.S. forces have suffered heavy losses. Iran has intensified ballistic missile attacks on Israeli and American positions, while the United States has increased its naval deployment in the Strait of Hormuz. Globally, oil prices have crossed the $200-per-barrel mark, and China and Russia have reportedly declared support for Iran.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said in an emergency press conference that these changes were unavoidable in the interest of national security. He added that with new leadership, the United States would respond decisively to Iran’s threats. According to sources, General Randy George was also accused of alleged links to Iran’s intelligence agency, although the Pentagon denied the claim. Lieutenant General Eric Farley is being discussed as a possible new Army Chief of Staff.
Analysts believe this reshuffle is part of President Donald Trump’s second-term military strategy, which under the “America First” policy emphasizes the withdrawal of troops from the Middle East. However, experts warn that the leadership change could make the complexities of the war even more difficult to manage. The UN Security Council is set to hold an emergency meeting today.
