The Lucknow High Court has rejected the petition seeking merger of Uttar Pradesh’s Shia and Sunni Waqf Boards. This decision was pronounced on February 25, 2026.Petitioner and DemandThe petition was filed by Jitendra Narayan Tyagi (former name Waseem Rizvi), who was associated with the Shia Central Waqf Board. He demanded dissolution of the existing two Waqf Boards and creation of a unified board. The court refused to entertain this plea.Tyagi’s ReactionAfter the rejection, Waseem Rizvi stated that he will file a fresh petition after reforms.
