Like every year, this year too, Mother’s Day will be celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm across the world. This international festival reminds us of the respect, love, and duty we owe to our parents. Our parents, who taught us social values, humanity, and religious duties, deserve to be honored through this occasion, which also makes us aware of our responsibilities towards them. However, the harsh reality is that in today’s times, such celebrations have become mere formalities.
The number of old age homes is rapidly increasing worldwide. It is ironic that the parents who raised their children with love, hard work, and sacrifice are left in old age homes due to domestic disputes, busy schedules, or their children living abroad. Even more heartbreaking is the fact that some people fail to attend their parents’ final rites. This is a symbol of social and moral decline.
There should be an international law to punish those who neglect their parents. Additionally, society should also boycott such individuals. All religious scriptures make one thing clear—if parents are displeased, then God is displeased too. Those who have their parents’ blessings are truly fortunate.
Let us pledge this Mother’s Day to remain loyal to our parents, serve them, and take care of their every need. I pray that old age homes are established in every city, where neglected parents receive respect and love. But even better would be if we give our parents the love and respect they deserve within the walls of our own homes.
