Trump’s Big Decision: India, China Among Five Countries to Get Relief Over Russian Oil

Washington | Shabu Zaidi

US President Donald Trump has decided to grant exemptions from certain Russia-related sanctions and tariffs, potentially providing relief to major buyers of Russian crude oil, including India, China, Italy, Turkey, and the Netherlands.

Under the proposed legislation, tariffs of up to 100% could have been imposed on goods entering the US market from countries purchasing Russian oil and gas. Trump has temporarily put the relevant provisions on hold, citing national interests. The move is expected to ease pressure on India-US trade relations and benefit countries that rely on Russian energy supplies.
