Suvendu Adhikari Government Takes Major Decision: West Bengal Assembly Passes Two Amendment Bills on OBC Reservation Shabu Zaidi

The West Bengal government, led by Suvendu Adhikari, on Monday passed two significant amendment bills related to Other Backward Classes (OBC) reservation in the State Assembly.
The bills were approved with the support of 186 legislators, while 17 members voted against them and 6 members abstained from voting.
Under the new laws, the state’s OBC reservation framework has undergone a major restructuring. According to the government, the OBC reservation structure has been reduced from 17% to 7%. In addition, the OBC categories have been reorganized.
The government stated that 113 categories that had been included in the OBC list without any field survey have been removed, while 66 sub-categories that were included on the basis of various social and field surveys have been retained.
