Boosting LPG Production & Restoring Supply: Government Takes Major StepNew

Delhi, March 10, 2026: The Petroleum Ministry has issued strict directives to refineries to ensure LPG supply. Refineries have been ordered not to use hydrocarbons like propane and butene for petrochemical production, but to utilize them exclusively for LPG production. This order takes immediate effect.This step has been taken in view of rising LPG demand and potential shortages, especially during summer when cooking fuel needs increase. According to the ministry, this will maintain the availability of domestic gas cylinders and curb black marketing. Refineries will now prioritize increasing LPG production, providing relief to consumers.
