Controversy Over Mohan Bhagwat’s US Visit; New York Mayor Mamdani Opposes Event
RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat is currently on a 17-day tour of the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom as part of the RSS’s global outreach campaign during its centenary year.
In New York, Bhagwat is scheduled to address around 5,000 members of the Indian diaspora at the “Universal Oneness Celebration” at Madison Square Garden on August 29. New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani has publicly said that he does not support the proposed event.
The event has also faced opposition from several organizations, including Hindus for Human Rights, the Indian American Muslim Council, and the Interfaith Center of New York, which have called for its cancellation.
Meanwhile, the RSS has described the programme as an opportunity for dialogue, unity and engagement among different communities. Reports say that after the US, Bhagwat is scheduled to travel to Canada and the UK.
