UP Panchayat Elections: High Court Orders Polls Within 3 Months; Outgoing Village Heads to Continue as Administrators
Prayagraj | Shabu Zaidi
The Allahabad High Court has issued a significant order regarding panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh on October 14, 2026. The court has directed the state government and the State Election Commission to conduct panchayat elections within three months.
The court dismissed petitions challenging the arrangement under which outgoing village heads continue as administrators. As a result, the outgoing Gram Pradhans will continue to discharge their responsibilities as administrators until the elections are completed.
According to the court’s order, all necessary election-related procedures, including the reservation process, must be completed within the stipulated time frame.
Following this decision, preparations for panchayat elections across the state are expected to gain momentum.
All eyes are now on the state government and the State Election Commission to see how the election process will be completed within the three-month deadline.
