New Delhi — Abbas Araghchi is on a two-day visit to India to attend the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting. At a press conference held at the Iranian embassy in New Delhi, he answered reporters’ questions in detail on regional security, India-Iran relations, the Chabahar port, the West Asia crisis, and issues related to global trade routes.
During the press briefing, Araghchi described India-Iran relations as “historical and strategic,” saying cooperation between the two countries is steadily strengthening. He specifically called the Chabahar port the “golden gateway” of the India-Iran partnership and a “symbol of cooperation.” He expressed hope that India will continue to advance the development of this project.
Foreign Minister Araghchi said that stability and peace in West Asia are extremely necessary. He said securing international trade routes, especially the Strait of Hormuz, is important for the global economy. He assured that safe commercial activities for friendly countries would continue.
In response to reporters’ questions he also commented on the policies of the United States and Western countries. Araghchi said that “politics of pressure and threats” cannot resolve global problems. He described the BRICS forum as important for a multipolar world order.
Praising India’s role, he said India maintains balanced friendships with all Gulf countries and can play a “constructive role” in establishing peace in the region. He also described his meeting with Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar as positive.
