Sawan Begins Today; ‘Bam Bam Bhole’ Echoes Across India as Devotees Flock to Shiva Temples By Shabu Zaidi

New Delhi: The holy month of Sawan (Shravan) begins today, marking the start of one of the most auspicious periods dedicated to Lord Shiva. On the very first day, Shiva temples across the country witnessed a massive turnout of devotees, with chants of “Har Har Mahadev” and “Bam Bam Bhole” creating a deeply spiritual atmosphere.
Devotees are offering holy water, milk, bel leaves (Bilva Patra), dhatura, and other sacred items to Lord Shiva, praying for peace, prosperity, good health, and the well-being of their families. The month of Sawan is considered highly auspicious for the worship of Lord Shiva through fasting, prayers, meditation, and spiritual practices.
Special arrangements have been made at major Shiva shrines and local temples across the country to ensure the safety and convenience of devotees. A particularly large number of worshippers is expected to visit Shiva temples on every Monday (Somwar) during the holy month of Sawan.
