Italy Cracks Down on Violent Protests; Parents to Pay for Damage Caused by Minors

Italy: Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has announced new measures to tighten security following violent protests and incidents of looting in Milan. Under the government’s plan, 500 additional soldiers will be deployed in Milan by the end of the year.

Under the proposed rules, parents may be held responsible for compensating damages caused by their minor children through vandalism and looting. The government is also preparing to make it easier to prosecute minors over the age of 14.

Those involved in violent protests could face up to five years in prison and fines of up to €20,000.
