BJP Holds Nationwide Protests Over Kharge’s Remarks; Imran Masood Backs Him

Patna/Lucknow | Shabu Zaidi

Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge was addressing a public meeting in Patna, the capital of Bihar. During the event, a young man stood up and said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would neither leave nor be removed from office. In response, Kharge angrily remarked from the stage, “Modi will go, and so will his father.” His statement triggered a political controversy.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Nitin Nabin, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Union Minister Giriraj Singh criticised Kharge over his remarks and targeted the Congress party. BJP leaders demanded that Rahul Gandhi take cognisance of the matter and issue an apology on Kharge’s behalf.

On October 26, BJP workers staged protests across the country against the remark concerning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s father. The BJP demanded an apology from the Congress president. In Patna, BJP workers also took out a protest march against Kharge.

Meanwhile, Congress MP from Saharanpur and Uttar Pradesh Congress working president Imran Masood came out in support of Kharge. Responding to the BJP, he said that Congress leaders should respond in the same language that BJP leaders use against Congress leaders.

Imran Masood hit back at the BJP by referring to controversial remarks allegedly made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the past about former Congress president Sonia Gandhi, including the phrases “jersey cow” and “₹50 crore girlfriend.” He argued that when such remarks are made against Congress leaders, the BJP should not object if it receives a response in similar language.
