Lucknow | August 23, 2026, Sunday

The protest by junior doctors and intern doctors at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) continued on Sunday. The doctors were seen sitting at the KGMU main gate and raising slogans in support of their demands. During the protest, they also raised slogans of “We Want Justice.”

One of the major demands of the protesting doctors is an increase in the internship stipend. According to available reports, MBBS and BDS interns at KGMU are currently receiving around ₹12,000 per month and are demanding that the stipend be increased to ₹30,000 per month. The protest and hunger strike over this demand began at the KGMU main gate on August 22.

The protesting doctors said that the existing stipend is inadequate in view of rising inflation and the expenses associated with medical education and training. They have indicated that the agitation will continue until their demands are addressed.

A large number of doctors gathered at the main gate on Sunday as well, raising slogans and voicing their demands. The protest created continued activity and movement around the KGMU campus.

KGMU’s official website has also issued recruitment and other administrative notices related to junior residents in 2026.
