Old Tree Falls Near Lucknow City Station, Child and Young Woman Sustain Minor Injuries
Lucknow: An old and dilapidated tree suddenly fell near Chhota Chhata, in the vicinity of Jubilee Inter College in the City Station area, on Thursday morning. The incident triggered panic among local residents. According to locals, a child and a young woman sustained minor injuries after being caught in the tree’s path. Residents immediately took them to a hospital for medical examination.
Local residents said the tree had been in a weak and dangerous condition for a long time. They claimed that several requests had previously been made to the Lucknow Municipal Corporation to have the tree cut down or removed. However, they alleged that due to the civic body’s busy schedule and alleged negligence by the concerned department, the tree was not removed in time.
According to residents, the tree suddenly collapsed on Thursday morning. Fortunately, there were not many people at the spot when it fell. Had it fallen on a vehicle, pedestrian, or people in the surrounding area, it could have resulted in a major accident.
Several Other Trees in the Area Also Pose a Threat
Residents said that several other old and weakened trees are present in and around Chhota Chhata. These trees could also fall during heavy rain or strong winds. Residents said they have repeatedly urged the Municipal Corporation to conduct a survey, identify dangerous trees, and take appropriate measures to safely remove or trim them, but adequate action has yet to be taken.
Local citizens have demanded that the Municipal Corporation immediately conduct a survey of trees in the area and ensure that trees found to be weak or dangerous are pruned or removed in accordance with the rules, so that major accidents can be prevented in the future.
Residents said that instead of taking action only after a tree falls, the Municipal Corporation should take complaints seriously in advance and identify potentially dangerous trees. They have urged the concerned authorities to inspect the area and take necessary action.
According to local residents, Thursday’s incident is a warning. If timely attention is not given to dangerous trees, the possibility of a major accident during the rainy season and strong winds cannot be ruled out.
