Ahlebait Youth Council Formed Under Guidance of Religious Scholars, Calls for Transparency in Waqf Management

Lucknow | October 23 | Shabu Zaidi

Lucknow: The formation of the Ahlebait Youth Council (AYC) was announced on Friday, October 23, at the Trustee Room located in Chhota Imambara, Lucknow. Formed with the consent of religious scholars (Ulama), the committee aims to protect Waqf properties, raise its voice against alleged irregularities, and organise efforts to safeguard the rights and interests of the community. The meeting emphasised transparency in Waqf management, accountability of Mutawallis (Waqf caretakers), and the establishment of a system of collective supervision.

Maulana Kalbe Jawad Calls for Unity

Maulana Kalbe Jawad Naqvi called for strengthening the Ahlebait Youth Council and said that everyone must unite to protect Waqf properties. He announced plans for a large-scale public mobilisation against alleged misappropriation and irregularities in Waqf properties. He also appealed to all religious scholars to set aside their differences and participate wholeheartedly in the campaign.

Proposal to Reform the Mutawalli System

Maulana Syed Saif Abbas Naqvi proposed that religious scholars currently serving as Mutawallis of Waqf properties should resign and that consideration should be given to assigning management responsibilities to five Anjumans (religious and community organisations).

He stressed the need to extend this model to villages and localities across Uttar Pradesh so that Waqf properties could be monitored collectively and their protection ensured more effectively.

Demand for Five-Member Committees for Charitable Waqf Properties

Supporting the proposal, Maulana Raza Hussain suggested that a five-member committee comprising representatives of Anjumans should be formed to manage and protect charitable Waqf properties. One member of the committee could be entrusted with the responsibility of Mutawalli.

Regarding Waqf-alal-Aulad, a Waqf established for the benefit of a family’s descendants, he suggested appointing one member from the concerned family as Mutawalli and including four members of an Anjuman in the committee. The objective is to ensure collective participation in supervision and management.

Emphasis on Including Honest Individuals with an Unblemished Reputation

Kalbe Sibtain Noori supported the formation of the committee and its objectives, stressing that only honest individuals with a clean public image should be included. He highlighted the need to organise a large public gathering under the leadership of Maulana Kalbe Jawad and appealed to religious scholars to participate. He also emphasised the importance of strengthening ongoing efforts to protect Waqf properties.

Encouragement for Young People

Imam-e-Juma Maulana Sartaj Hussain offered prayers for the youth and encouraged them to continue their efforts. He said that young people working to protect the rights of the community and Waqf properties should move forward with courage and determination. He also assured them of his support whenever required for this cause.

Maulana Mustafa Ali Khan, Maulana Raza Haider, Maulana Afzal, Maulana Rizwan, and Maulana Raza Abbas were also present at the meeting.

Protection of Waqf Properties Described as a Collective Responsibility

The meeting emphasised that protecting Waqf properties is not the responsibility of any single individual or organisation but a collective responsibility of the entire community. Religious scholars, Anjumans, young people, and other sections of society must work together, setting aside their differences.

The Ahlebait Youth Council resolved to pursue a peaceful, organised, and coordinated campaign to protect Waqf properties, promote transparency in their management, ensure accountability, and safeguard the rights of the community.
