Instead of Roza Iftar Party, Help the Poor

During the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims fast and perform prayers, during which they talk to their Lord, seek forgiveness for their sins, and pray for guidance on the right path. This month emphasizes helping those in need financially [1].

Recently, prominent politicians and wealthy individuals have been hosting iftar parties at hotels and uploading photos on social media. The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) also hosted a Roza Iftar party, attended by senior leaders and women from various political parties.

I have no objection to such events, but linking them to Ramadan and Roza is problematic. Ramadan and Roza have great significance, and such events should not diminish their importance.

Just like we used to perform weddings in mosques, and we considered it an honor to bid farewell to our daughters and sisters from our ancestral homes. However, wealthy individuals have started hosting weddings in grand hotels, making it a status symbol. We have stopped performing weddings in mosques, putting a significant financial burden on the poor and middle class.

Now, let us not forget the true purpose of Roza and Ramadan by hosting such Iftar parties, and instead, start a new culture.”
