New Delhi February 13, 2026: Predictions of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) securing over 200 seats in the general elections held on February 12 in Bangladesh have stirred political circles. This secular alliance has firmly reflected the development-oriented inclinations of the country’s majority population by leaving behind Islamic parties like Jamaat-e-Islami. Surveys clearly indicate that voters are prioritizing economic progress, youth empowerment, mental priorities like education and health, and infrastructure.BNP’s potential major victory brings hope for relief to Bangladesh’s Hindu minority community, as the alliance has emphasized social inclusion. At the same time, there’s potential for improvement in relations with India, since BNP is known for its India-friendly policies. This could strengthen ties that deteriorated during Sheikh Hasina’s regime. In this context, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated BNP leader Tarique Rahman on the victory. Tarique Rahman is reportedly the frontrunner for the Prime Minister position. Recall that in the previous election, PM Modi had congratulated Sheikh Hasina on her fourth win and promised to strengthen bilateral relations. This time too, India’s positive response to BNP’s victory has sparked hopes for renewed warmth in relations between the two countries.
